WHAT ARE THE MOST INFLUENTIAL WEDDING DRESSES EVER?
We all know that bridal fashion trends come and go, but there are naturally some timeless wedding dress designs that have influenced the style of brides walking down the aisle for decades.
Tatler recently picked out what it deems to be some of the most influential wedding dresses of all times, with some of these styles set to be big in 2021, when (hopefully) more brides and grooms will be able to say ‘I do’ in front of their loved ones.
Among the dresses picked out by the publication was Queen Elizabeth II’s dress for her wedding to Prince Philip in 1947. The gown, which was intricate and striking, was embroidered with over 10,000 pearls and designed by Norman Hartnell.
His style, which focuses on opulence, is expected to make a resurgence in popularity in 2021, especially after Princess Beatrice wore one of his dresses that had been re-styled for her wedding earlier this year.
Another dress picked out by the publication was Grace Kelly’s 1957 wedding gown, which featured intricate antique Belgian lace, and became an instant classic. One of the most recent and high-profile interpretations of this style came in the form of Kate Middleton’s dress when she married Prince William.
While the wedding industry has been turned on its head by the Covid-19 pandemic, that doesn’t mean brides aren’t still looking for the perfect dress to wear. An article for Refinery29 recently explored the micro-wedding concept, which has become big this year.
It spoke to a number of brides and brides-to-be about their altered wedding plans, with many still splashing out on a beautiful dress for their ceremony, even if there are fewer people present to celebrate.
